The Telangana Association of Educators in Culinary and Hospitality (TEACH), a consortium of Osmania University-affiliated colleges, recently hosted a conclave in Hyderabad. The event, titled ‘Hotel Management and Culinary Arts – Gateway to Global Careers,’ aimed to raise awareness among students, parents, educators, and career counsellors about the significant opportunities within the hospitality sector.

The conclave underscored the growing demand for skilled professionals in Hotel Management and Culinary Arts, both locally and internationally. Discussions highlighted the vast career pathways available to graduates from these programs, emphasizing the global nature of the hospitality industry.

Importance of Hospitality Education

Osmania University has been a pioneer in hospitality education for over three decades, with its Faculty of Technology offering professional degree programs. Currently, sixteen affiliated colleges provide these specialized courses, contributing to the development of a skilled workforce for the sector. The focus of the conclave was to connect academic offerings with industry demands and future career prospects.

Telangana’s Hospitality Potential

Prof. Kumar Molugaram, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, pointed out the disparity in five-star hotel presence across India. While Kerala, a smaller state, boasts a high number of such establishments, Telangana currently has only 23 five-star hotels despite its significant growth potential. This statistic suggests a considerable scope for expansion in Telangana’s hospitality infrastructure, which in turn will create more job opportunities.

Industry Insights

Raj Bhattacharya, Director of Sales and Marketing for Radisson Blu Hotels, affirmed Hyderabad’s immense growth potential for the hospitality industry. He noted that several reputable international hotel chains are actively investigating opportunities in the city, indicating future investments and job creation. Chef Amey Marathe, President of the Telangana Chefs Association (TCA), compared international tourism figures, stating that Paris attracts approximately 17 million tourists annually, while India receives around 10 million international tourists each year. This comparison illustrates the substantial untapped potential within India’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
