CM Revanth Reddy Inaugurates 1,082-Bed MCR TIMS Sanathnagar, Aiming for Corporate-Level Public Healthcare

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inaugurated the Marri Channa Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (MCR TIMS) at Sanathnagar on Monday, describing it as the government’s flagship effort to deliver corporate-level healthcare to the poor. The 1,082-bed facility, built at a cost of ₹1,126 crore, is designed to provide advanced medical services typically associated with private hospitals, but within the public system.
Speaking at the event, Reddy said the hospital is a direct response to the rising expense of private healthcare. He noted that since his government took office in December 2023, it has spent ₹2,700 crore on the Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme and ₹2,526 crore through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Over the past two years, the Medical and Health Department has received ₹21,800 crore in total expenditure.
A hospital with 37 departments and 300 ICU beds
The MCR TIMS Sanathnagar covers a built-up area of 11.68 lakh square feet and houses 37 medical departments. It includes 300 ICU beds, 88 emergency beds, 30 dialysis beds, 400 general beds, and 100 beds reserved for medical tourism. Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha said the hospital will be developed as a Centre of Excellence in cardiac, renal, and organ transplant sciences. The facility combines advanced infrastructure and technology with the expertise of specialist doctors and surgeons already working in the public sector, he added.
A dedicated director will be appointed for each of the state’s major public hospitals to ensure they are managed on par with corporate institutions, the Chief Minister announced. He also said doctors who put in additional hours at government hospitals would be recognised and incentivised, encouraging specialists to devote more quality time to patients in the public system.
Timeline for other hospital projects
Reddy said several other major hospital projects are on track for completion by December 9, 2027. These include the Osmania General Hospital redevelopment, the NIMS expansion, TIMS hospitals at L.B. Nagar and Alwal, and the Warangal Super-Speciality Hospital. The government is also pushing forward with the expansion of the Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme, which provides cashless treatment to eligible families.
Health Minister Narasimha urged doctors, nurses, and staff at MCR TIMS to build a strong reputation for the institution by treating every patient with respect, responding promptly to emergencies, and dealing with families with a humane approach. “No patient should feel that they would not receive quality medical care simply because they have come to a government hospital,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka criticised the previous BRS government, saying only ₹70 crore had been spent on construction of the TIMS Sanathnagar Super-Speciality Hospital during its tenure. He pointed out that the present government has already released ₹845 crore toward the total construction cost of ₹1,126 crore. “It was inappropriate for the previous government to claim credit for the entire project having spent only ₹70 crore,” he said.
The hospital is named after former Chief Minister Marri Channa Reddy. Vikramarka described it as a “modern temple of healthcare” that will provide free medical services to lakhs of people across Telangana.
For Hyderabad residents, the opening of MCR TIMS Sanathnagar means a significant addition to the city’s public healthcare infrastructure. The hospital is expected to reduce the burden on existing government facilities such as Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital, while offering specialised care in cardiology, nephrology, and organ transplants. The 100 beds set aside for medical tourism also signal an intent to attract patients from outside the state.
