BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy has submitted a written explanation to the Telangana Legislative Assembly ethics committee, firmly denying allegations that he made threatening gestures toward fellow MLA Kadiyam Srihari during House proceedings. In his submission, Reddy described the accusations as “false, distorted, and taken out of context.”

The controversy stems from exchanges that took place on March 29, 2026, during a session of the state assembly. The ethics committee had taken up the matter following a complaint against Reddy’s conduct.

What Kaushik Reddy told the committee

In his explanation, Kaushik Reddy rejected claims that he pointed a finger at Srihari and threatened him with statements such as “I will see your end” or “I will deal with you.” He also denied allegations that he used body language resembling pointing a gun and threatening to “shoot.”

The BRS legislator argued that the video clip provided to him by the ethics committee was only a selective two-minute excerpt and did not represent the full incident. He has requested the complete, unedited video footage, including both on-record and off-record recordings from March 29, along with the full transcript of the proceedings.

He further demanded that the comments, gestures, and interactions involving Kadiyam Srihari and treasury bench members also be shown in their entirety without any omissions.

Context of the exchange

Kaushik Reddy explained that the exchange began when he questioned why Kadiyam Srihari was sitting with the ruling party benches despite being elected on a BRS ticket. According to Reddy, Srihari allegedly used abusive language against him in response. Reddy maintained that his own remarks were merely a response to those comments.

The BRS leader said the assembly witnessed heated exchanges between both sides, including slogan-shouting, mutual allegations, and members entering the well of the House. He argued that his gestures should not be viewed in isolation from the overall atmosphere and context of the proceedings.

What Kaushik Reddy is seeking

The MLA has requested an opportunity to submit additional material, written explanations, or oral arguments after obtaining further records and information from the assembly secretariat. He has also sought permission to appear before the ethics committee personally and to engage legal counsel for his defence.

The committee is now expected to review his explanation and decide on the next steps, including whether to summon him for a personal hearing.

The outcome could set a precedent for how similar conduct complaints are handled in the future.

The ethics committee’s decision on whether to provide the unedited footage and allow additional submissions will be closely watched by political observers and the public alike.
