Hyderabad Family Mourns Man Killed in Riyadh Airport Incident; Three Children Stable After Surgery

A family in Hyderabad’s Mehdipatnam area is in mourning after Mohammed Yousuf Ali, 45, was killed by falling debris at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport earlier this week. Yousuf was at the airport with his wife Sameera and their three children — Amaan (18), Wasey (16), and Maryam (11) — to travel for Umrah when a projectile struck the airport premises. Debris from the impact landed on Yousuf, causing critical injuries. He later died at a hospital.
The three children, who were also injured in the same event, are now reported to be in stable condition. Relatives confirmed that all three have undergone surgery and remain under medical observation.
Children’s condition and surgery details
Speaking to The Times of India, the family’s relative Mohammed Aleem said the children’s condition is stable but they have been advised to stay in hospital for another three weeks. Amaan underwent surgery on both kneecaps. Wasey’s little finger was amputated, though the family clarified that three of his toes were not removed, contrary to earlier media reports. The youngest, Maryam, had surgery for back injuries caused by glass fragments and is now out of danger.
In one of the family’s most difficult moments, Maryam asked relatives whether her father was alive. They eventually told her that Yousuf had passed away and was in ‘Jannat’.
Local political support and family background
AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain visited the family’s residence in Mehdipatnam and spoke to the media. “The response from the police, the Indian consulate and the MEA was very prompt. I assure the family that we will support the children’s education once they return to India,” Hussain said.
Relatives described Yousuf as a calm, peace-loving man who was well-liked in the community. He had been working from home for the past few months and had recently bought a house in Hyderabad, a milestone his father was proud of. Yousuf regularly travelled for Umrah but had decided to take his family along this time, ahead of the Dussehra vacation at the children’s school.
Funeral prayers and community response
The family has arranged for Yousuf’s final prayers at 4:15 pm on Tuesday at their home in Mehdipatnam. Neighbours and community members have been visiting the family to offer condolences.

What this means for Hyderabad readers
This incident brings into focus the risks faced by Hyderabad residents travelling abroad, particularly to conflict-prone regions. While the Indian consulate and MEA have been active in this case, families planning international travel — especially for religious purposes — may want to check travel advisories and ensure they have emergency contact numbers for the nearest Indian mission. The community in Mehdipatnam has rallied around the bereaved family, and local MLA support for the children’s education provides some relief, but the tragedy underscores the need for clear protocols for Indian nationals caught in overseas incidents.
