KIMS Hospitals in Hyderabad has introduced Tulsa-Pro, an advanced prostate cancer treatment system developed by Canada-based Profound Medical Corp. The hospital is the first and only centre in India and South Asia to offer this technology, according to a press release from DSS Imagetech, which announced the availability of the system.

The system is designed to provide a pain-free, non-intrusive and customisable treatment for prostate cancer without incisions or radiation. It allows physicians to visualise the prostate and surrounding structures, target the treatment area precisely and monitor the process in real time.

How Tulsa-Pro works

Tulsa-Pro uses controlled ultrasound energy delivered through the urethra to target identified malignant prostate tissues. The procedure preserves surrounding healthy structures, which is a key advantage over conventional treatments. The real-time imaging capability helps doctors adjust the treatment as it progresses, improving accuracy and reducing damage to adjacent organs.

The technology has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration and is supported by clinical data from studies conducted at multiple centres globally. Profound Medical Corp, the developer, specialises in MRI-guided ultrasound therapies.

What this means for patients in Hyderabad

For men diagnosed with prostate cancer in Hyderabad and across Telangana, the availability of Tulsa-Pro at KIMS Hospitals offers an alternative to surgery or radiation therapy. The minimally invasive approach aims to support faster recovery while helping eligible patients preserve urinary continence and functional erections, according to the press release.

DSS Imagetech Private Limited Business Head, Medical Division, stated that the targeted approach aims to enable patients to return to their daily routines and enjoy a better quality of life post-procedure.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men in India, with incidence rates rising in urban areas. Early detection and treatment options that minimise side effects remain a priority for oncologists and patients alike.
