BITS Pilani to Establish Startup Incubators in Telangana with T-Hub Partnership

BITS Pilani is set to establish two new startup incubators in Telangana, a significant initiative undertaken in partnership with T-Hub. Each incubator will involve an investment of Rs 10.70 crore. This development was announced by Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Danasari Anasuya, also known as Seethakka, on Friday, May 29.

The announcement was made during a speech at the Komaram Bheem Adivasi Bhavan in Banjara Hills. Minister Seethakka highlighted the state government’s broader vision to empower women not just with financial security through bank passbooks, but also by enabling them to establish and run industries and businesses.

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs

These newly planned incubators are specifically designed to provide comprehensive support to women entrepreneurs. The goal is to assist up to 300 women by offering financial aid, technical expertise, and crucial business support. This initiative aims to transform women from job seekers into job providers, fostering economic independence and growth.

Telangana Government's Initiatives for Women

Minister Seethakka also elaborated on the various initiatives the Telangana government has already implemented for women's empowerment. She noted that 67 lakh women in self-help groups (SHGs) are currently vital to the rural economy through their diverse business ventures.

Financial Support and Success Stories

The government is also providing interest-free loans of up to Rs 10 lakh to women’s groups. So far, Rs 60,000 crore in bank loans has been disbursed to these groups, who have demonstrated a 100 percent repayment rate, setting a strong example of financial responsibility. Several successful projects were highlighted, including solar power plants set up for women in Madhira at a cost of Rs 3 crore, which generate an income of up to Rs 5 lakh per month. Additionally, petrol stations managed by women are reportedly earning profits of up to Rs 4 lakh per month.

Expanding Market Reach

During the Medaram Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara, 554 women received Rs 6 crore in assistance, enabling them to conduct business worth Rs 9.5 crore in just 15 days. The government is also actively working to ensure that products made by women in villages reach not only local markets but also international platforms. An example cited was the tamarind masks made by women in Cheryala, which are now being exported to the Netherlands, showcasing the creativity and potential of Telangana's women.
