Telangana EAGLE Nabs Two With Ganja, MDMA in Bachupally Drug Bust

Telangana’s Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) apprehended two individuals on Friday, October 16, for allegedly peddling contraband drugs in Bachupally, a suburb in northern Hyderabad. The arrests mark the latest action in the state’s intensified campaign against narcotics supply and distribution networks.

The two suspects were caught in an open space opposite Mamatha Hospital in Bachupally. According to EAGLE officials, the team recovered 6.2 grams of MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy), 5.83 grams of dry ganja, a pocket-sized weighing machine and two iPhones from their possession. The electronic weighing device indicates the suspects were actively involved in measuring and packaging drugs for sale, rather than being simple users.

Details of the Operation
The operation was conducted as part of EAGLE’s continuing surveillance and intelligence-led crackdown on drug trafficking in the Hyderabad region. The team acted on specific inputs before moving in to intercept the two men at the location opposite the hospital. The exact identities of the accused have not been disclosed by authorities at the time of writing.

Bachupally, which has seen rapid residential and commercial growth over the past decade, is home to several IT offices, colleges and apartment complexes. The presence of a young, mobile population makes such areas vulnerable to drug peddling activities. The arrest underscores law enforcement’s focus on suburban hubs that may serve as distribution points for narcotics.

What is Telangana EAGLE?
The Telangana Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) is a specialised unit formed by the Telangana government to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse. It operates under the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) and works in coordination with local police, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other agencies. EAGLE units conduct regular raids, track supply chains and monitor suspicious transactions across the state.

Since its formation, EAGLE has conducted numerous operations in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda and other commissionerate limits. The unit has focused on both street-level peddlers and higher-level suppliers, aiming to disrupt the entire distribution chain.

Broader Context for Hyderabad Residents
For residents of Hyderabad and surrounding areas like Bachupally, this arrest is a reminder of the ongoing drug problem in the city. The Telangana government has repeatedly stated its zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics, and EAGLE operations have increased in frequency over the past year. Neighbourhoods near colleges, tech parks and entertainment zones remain under special surveillance.

The seizure of iPhones is noteworthy, as investigators often examine call logs, messaging apps and payment histories to map out larger networks. The weighing machine suggests the suspects were not merely users but were engaged in retail-level distribution.

Residents who observe suspicious activity, particularly unusual foot traffic at odd hours or transactions in open spaces, are encouraged to report it to local police or the TGANB helpline. Community vigilance remains a key component in supporting law enforcement efforts.

What Remains Unconfirmed
As of this report, the full identities of the two accused, their exact charges, and whether they have any prior criminal records have not been officially released. It is also unclear if the operation has led to further arrests or the identification of suppliers. EAGLE officials have not yet commented on whether the seized drugs are linked to any larger syndicate operating in the Hyderabad region.

This story is based on initial information shared by the agency. Further details may emerge as the investigation progresses and formal charges are filed.
